Product overview
Description
The LL32 Portable SF6 Gas Leak Detector is designed for locating and quantifying SF6 leaks in GIS, ring main units and other gas-insulated equipment. It provides real-time concentration readings in ppm and leak-rate values in g/y, helping technicians identify leakage points and assess the extent of gas loss.
Infrared technology
The LL32 uses non-dispersive infrared (NDIR) technology for SF6 detection. With a resolution of 0.1 ppm and dual measuring ranges of 0–50 ppm and 0–1,500 ppm, the instrument can detect small changes in SF6 concentration around potential leakage points.
A built-in sampling pump continuously draws the surrounding gas through the measurement system, providing a response time of 1–5 seconds. Automatic zero correction compensates for baseline drift during use and helps maintain stable real-time readings.
Simple operation
The handheld design allows technicians to move the sampling probe around valves, flanges, joints and other areas where SF6 leakage may occur. The probe also makes it easier to inspect confined or difficult-to-reach points during routine maintenance.
Measurement values are displayed in real time, while audible and visual alarms provide immediate indication when the selected alarm level is reached. This allows technicians to move systematically along potential leakage points and respond quickly to changes in SF6 concentration.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common technical and operational questions about the LL32.
Can the LL32 locate the actual SF6 leak point?
Yes. The LL32 is designed for point-by-point inspection around valves, flanges, joints and sealing connections. The built-in sampling pump draws gas continuously through the detector, while the 1–5 s response time helps technicians follow changes in SF6 concentration as the probe is moved around a suspected leakage area.
What does the 0.1 ppm specification mean in actual leak inspection?
The 0.1 ppm value is the instrument’s concentration resolution. It allows small changes in SF6 concentration to be observed when the probe is moved around potential leakage points. It should not be interpreted as a 0.1 ppm leak-rate limit.
When should I use ppm and when should I use g/y?
Use ppm to observe the local SF6 concentration around a suspected leakage point and to compare changes as the probe is moved. The g/y reading provides a quantitative leak-rate value that can be used when the amount of gas loss needs to be assessed or recorded.
Can the LL32 be used after an SF6 leak has been repaired?
Yes. After repair, seal replacement or other gas-handling work, the LL32 can be used to recheck the repaired area and surrounding connections. Real-time concentration readings and quantitative leak values help technicians verify whether leakage is still present.
