Product overview
Description
The LL31 Portable SF6 Qualitative Leak Detector is designed for tracing SF6 leaks in circuit breakers, switchgear and other SF6-filled electrical equipment. It provides a relative indication of leak intensity, helping technicians move from a suspected leakage area toward the point with the strongest response.
Adjustable leak tracing
The LL31 provides seven sensitivity levels, with each increase raising the relative sensitivity and a total adjustment range of up to 64 times. As the probe approaches a higher SF6 concentration, the audible response and tri-color LED indication increase progressively, helping the operator narrow down the leak location.
The reset function can establish a new reference level during inspection. This is useful when background gas is already present or when the detector reaches a high response before the exact leakage point has been found.
Field operation
A mechanical sampling pump continuously draws gas toward the sensing tip, while the flexible probe allows technicians to inspect connections, sealing points and other difficult-to-reach areas. The cordless handheld design and direct visual indication make the LL31 suitable for routine SF6 leak tracing in substations and switchgear maintenance work.

Frequently Asked Questions
Common technical and operational questions about the LL31.
Can the LL31 help me locate the actual SF6 leak point?
Yes. The LL31 is designed for qualitative leak tracing. As the probe moves toward a higher SF6 concentration, the audible and visual indication increases, helping the operator narrow down the suspected leakage point.
Does the LL31 provide ppm or g/year leak-rate readings?
No. The LL31 is primarily a qualitative leak detector. It indicates relative leakage intensity to help locate a leak, but it does not provide the same quantitative ppm or leak-rate readout as a quantitative SF6 detector.
How should I use the seven sensitivity levels when searching for a leak?
The sensitivity can be increased when the leak response is weak and reduced when the signal becomes too strong. This allows the operator to move from wider screening toward closer leak-point tracing without changing instruments.
Can the LL31 still be used if some SF6 is already present in the surrounding air?
The reset function allows the detector to establish a new reference level and ignore the existing background concentration. The instrument can then respond to concentrations above that new reference while the operator continues tracing the leak.
Is the LL31 suitable for routine GIS and circuit-breaker inspections?
Yes. It is intended for field leak inspection of SF6 electrical equipment and is especially useful for checking joints, seals and other suspected leakage locations during routine maintenance.
